hello

hi

wayneolanterns:

Honestly, I am automatically wary of any non Muslim or non Muslim raised person (especially white people) when they talk about misogyny in Islam.

I mean, I’m not saying that misogyny doesn’t exist in Islam and Muslim communities, not at all. It’s there, and it needs to be called out. But whenever I see non Muslims talk about it, it’s riddled in saviorism and Islamophobia and infantilization.

It’s “we have to save them!” It’s “Islam is so barbaric and needs to be eradicated!” It’s “those poor women don’t know better!”

Muslim woman do not need white people to save us. We never have, and we never will. If you want to help and call out misogyny in Islam, you need to stand behind Muslim women, not in front of us.

Listen to us, don’t speak over us, defer to us, and accept the fact that we know what we need better than you do.

Don’t try to save us. Try to help us save ourselves.
